With this news, the arrival of a fifth generation of standardized mobile technologies is accelerated.
The 3rd Generation Partnership Program (3GPP) approved at a plenary meeting in Lisbon (Portugal), the specifications of New Non-Autonomous 5G Radio (NSA 5G NR, or Non-Standalone 5G New Radio).
This fact is very important, since it is the first standard of Fifth Generation (5G) of mobile networks officially approved by 3GPP.
The New Non-Autonomous 5G Radio specification will rely on the use of existing LTE (4G) networks to offer 5G carriers at the air interface, allowing higher transfer speeds and lower latency than its 4G predecessor.
In addition, it will help to continue developing the future standards of 5G , to count in the coming years with a new generation of autonomous and completely standardized mobile technologies.
Chris Pearson, President of 5G Americas, stressed that “the approval of the standard for NSA 5G NR represents the first steps towards commercial deployments of a standardized 5G“.
From 5G Americas also remember that contrary to what happened with previous generations, with the 5G will not be necessary to deploy a new network completely from nothing .
