And, although this technology limits its presence to premium terminals today , Gartner predicts a good future. Compared to 10% of smartphones that in 2017 included AI capabilities in the device among all those sent, that percentage will grow to 80% in 2022.
In fact, “the AI solutions running on the smartphone will become an essential part of the suppliers’ roadmaps over the next two years,” says the consultant.
“With smartphones becoming more and more a basic device, providers are looking for ways to differentiate their products,” explains CK Lu, research director at Gartner . “Future AI capabilities will allow smartphones to learn, plan and solve problems for users.”
Different uses are foreseen for artificial intelligence in smartphones such as authentication, device management , natural language comprehension, audio analytics, recognition of emotions and the ability to anticipate the following user movements, among other things. .
“Over the next two years, most use cases will continue to exploit a single AI technology and capacity,” says Roberta Cozza, who is also a research director at Gartner. “In the future,” however, ” smartphones will combine two or more AI capabilities and technologies to provide more advanced user experiences.”
