And in 2021, its share of the rest of mobile wireless technologies will exceed 50%.

How many LTE connections are in the world today? According to data from Ovum for the second quarter of 2017, published by 5G Americas, there are already 2.370 million of the total 7.8 billion cellular connections that exist.

This means that LTE connections have increased 59% from June 2016 to the same month this year.

“LTE subscriptions increased by 878 million worldwide” over that 12-month period, as Kristin Paulin, senior analyst at Ovum, “with almost half of the additional subscriptions”, to 48% “from of the Oceania region, East Asia and Southeast Asia, where China is by far the largest contributor to LTE. ”

Compared with the rest of mobile wireless technologies, the share of LTE is 30% at the moment.

If the experts’ calculations are correct, LTE will end 2017 over 2.5 billion connections. The 3,000 million will be reached in 2018. And the thing will continue to grow in successive years. By 2021 , for example, we should be talking about 4.8 billion LTE connections and 53% share .

There are also forecasts for 5G , the next generation, which will begin to be noticeable in a couple of years. By 2021, it is estimated that it will have reached 111 million connections. And in 2022 they should be 389 million .
