Facebook has put its numbers in order for the whole year 2017 and, as regards the number of users, has managed to improve its already high figures.
This social network ended December with 1,400 million active daily users on average, which rise to 2,130 million monthly . In both cases there has been an interannual growth of 14%. And that Facebook is not growing in all countries where its service is available.
“The changes we made to improve quality in the fourth quarter contributed to a decrease in people who use Facebook daily in some countries,” reveals Mark Zuckerberg, founder and CEO of the company.
“2017 was a strong year for Facebook, but it was also difficult , ” valued Zuckerberg, who says that now, “in 2018, we are focused on making sure that Facebook not only fun to use, but also good for the welfare of people and for society. We are doing this by encouraging meaningful connections between people instead of passive content consumption. ” And that’s where the changes that have caused the fall of followers in some places come into play.
“In the last quarter we made changes to show fewer viral videos to make sure that people’s time is well spent,” Mark Zuckerberg explains. “In total, we made changes that reduced the time spent on Facebook by approximately 50 million hours a day . “
And is that the plan of Facebook is to promote connections between people instead of the consumption of certain content such as videos, news and posts from companies. “By focusing on meaningful connections , our community and our business will be strengthened in the long term,” says Zuckerberg, who stresses that “now you will see more content from friends, family and groups that will lead you to interact with other people, and less public content than leads to more dedicated total time. ”
