Zcash  (ZEC) is a cryptocurrency that was born from the Zerocoin project, which after starting as a cloak of cryptographic anonymity for Bitcoin ended up becoming an independent altcoin . Unlike Bitcoin, Zcash automatically hides the identities of issuers and receivers, as well as the amount of all transactions that we make in your Blockchain. Only those who have a visualization key will be able to see the content of the operations.

Zcash uses an algorithm called  Equihash , resistant to ASICs, in a few words, it is similar to Ethereum because it can be mined with GPUs (graphic cards) and CPUs (traditional processors).

In this tutorial we will explain how to mine Zcash on a PC through the Claymore, Excavator and EWBF mining clients   For this we have chosen the Nanopool mining pool.

Nanopool is one of the most popular mining pools of the moment to extract Ethereum, Ethereum Classic, Zcash and Monero. Through its official site https://nanopool.org/ we can easily install and configure the ZEC mining clients, as we will see later.

Some of the advantages of this mining pool are the following:

  • The rate is 1%
  • Regular payments
  • The default minimum payment is 0.01 ZEC
  • The difficulty of sharing is static and equal to 25600

Requirements

  • An AMD Polaris / NVIDIA Pascal graphics card
  • The latest graphics drivers available
  • Windows 7 x64 or higher
  • A wallet or wallet address Zcash.

Optimal configuration of mining

Based on expert opinions, we believe that this is the best possible configuration for mining Zcash and other cryptocurrencies based on the Equihash algorithm (November 2017):

* To calculate the total energy consumption of the equipment use the Outervision online watt calculator: https://outervision.com/power-supply-calculator

1. Download Jaxx

We need a Zcash wallet or purse to receive the rewards for each mined block. In this case we have chosen Jaxx , a light wallet and quite safe. Jaxx is multiplatform and supports different cryptoactives, such as Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash, Ethereum, Ethereum Classic, Litecoin, Dash and Zcash, among others.

Download the Jaxx client for Windows from its official site https://jaxx.io/ , or if you prefer, the extension of Google Chrome, which only weighs 3MB. Once the file is downloaded, run it and proceed to create a new Ethereum wallet.

Select “Zcash” from the list of options and click “Take me to my wallet”:

Copy the Zcash address of your wallet and keep it in a safe place, as we will need it later:

2. How to mine Zcash with AMD graphics cards (Claymore)

Go to  https://zec.nanopool.org/ and click on the “Help” button. From here you can see the recommended configuration for each mining client, including Claymore.

Then download the mining client by clicking ” Download Claymore (OpenCL) “.

Open the .zip file that you just downloaded (“Claymore.s.ZCash.AMD.GPU.Miner”) and extract the content to a new folder on your PC, (for example: ” C: / Claymore “).

Now we must create a config.txt file with our personal Zcash wallet address, the name of our worker and a valid email address. To do this, open the notebook, and paste the following parameters:

-zpool ssl://zec-eu1.nanopool.org:6633
-zwal YOUR_ZEC_ADDRESS.YOUR_WORKER/YOUR_EMAIL
-zpsw z
-ftime 1

Where:

YOUR_ZEC_ADDRESS: your valid ZCash address.
YOUR_WORKER: short and simple name of the worker (for example “worker01”).
YOUR_EMAIL: your email address for notifications.

As you can see, we are going to use the Europa server  zec-eu1.nanopool.org in the SSL port 6633, but if you prefer, you can replace it with one of the servers described in the table below by modifying the config.txt file. For example, if you are on the west coast of the United States, replace the default server ssl: //zec-eu1.nanopool.org: 6633 for this one: ssl: //zec-us-west1.nanopool.org: 6633

LocationServer HostStratum PortSSL / TLS Port
Europezec-eu1.nanopool.org6666 or 166666633 or 16633
Europezec-eu2.nanopool.org6666 or 166666633 or 16633
US Eastzec-us-east1.nanopool.org6666 or 166666633 or 16633
US Westzec-us-west1.nanopool.org6666 or 166666633 or 16633
Asiazec-asia1.nanopool.org6666 or 166666633 or 16633

Save the file with the name config.txt  in the container folder where you unzipped the files of the Claymore mining client, (you must confirm that you want to replace the existing file).

Now it’s time to configure the epools.txt file . To do this, open the notebook again and copy the following parameters:

POOL: zec-eu1.nanopool.org:6633, WALLET: YOUR_ZEC_WALLET.YOUR_WORKER/YOUR_EMAIL, PSW: x, WORKER: , ESM: 0, ALLPOOLS: 0
POOL: zec-eu2.nanopool.org:6633, WALLET: YOUR_ZEC_WALLET.YOUR_WORKER/YOUR_EMAIL, PSW: x, WORKER: , ESM: 0, ALLPOOLS: 0
POOL: zec-us-east1.nanopool.org:6633, WALLET: YOUR_ZEC_WALLET.YOUR_WORKER/YOUR_EMAIL, PSW: x, WORKER: , ESM: 0, ALLPOOLS: 0
POOL: zec-us-west1.nanopool.org:6633, WALLET: YOUR_ZEC_WALLET.YOUR_WORKER/YOUR_EMAIL, PSW: x, WORKER: , ESM: 0, ALLPOOLS: 0
POOL: zec-asia1.nanopool.org:6633, WALLET: YOUR_ZEC_WALLET.YOUR_WORKER/YOUR_EMAIL, PSW: x, WORKER: , ESM: 0, ALLPOOLS: 0

In a similar way as we did before, you will have to replace the  YOUR_ZEC_WALLET, YOUR_WORKER and YOUR_EMAIL commands on each of the servers in this list with your Zcash personal wallet address, a name for your worker and your email address. Once you have completed this step, save the file with the name epools.txt  in the container folder along with the rest of the Claymore files. With this we will replace the existing epools.txt file.

Now our mining client will be ready to mine. To start the miner all you have to do is run the start.bat file   contained within the Claymore folder. Congratulations! You’re already mining Zcash.

3. How to mine Zcash with NVIDIA graphics cards (Excavator)

Go to  https://zec.nanopool.org/ and click on the “Help” button. From here you can see the recommended configuration for each mining client, including Excavator.

Then download the mining client by clicking on ” Download Excavator “.

The Excavator mining client will be downloaded into a compressed file (excavator_v1.1.0a_Win64.zip). You must extract the content to a new folder on your PC, (for example: ” C: / Excavator “).

The next step will be to create an executable file start.bat , for that open the notebook and copy the following parameters:

excavator -a equihash -s zec-eu1.nanopool.org:6666 -u YOUR_WALLET_ADDRESS/YOUR_WORKER/YOUR_EMAIL -p 0 -d 2 -ca -ca

Where:

YOUR_WALLET_ADDRESS: your valid wallet address ZCash
YOUR_WORKER_NAME: simple short worker name (for example: worker01).
YOUR_EMAIL: your email address for notifications.

As you can see, we are going to use the Europa server  zec-eu1.nanopool.org in the Stratum 6666 port, but if you prefer, you can replace it with another one of the servers described in the table below by modifying the start.bat file. For example, if you are on the west coast of the United States, replace the default server zec-eu1.nanopool.org:6666 with this one: zec-us-west1.nanopool.org:6633

LocationServer HostStratum PortSSL / TLS Port
Europezec-eu1.nanopool.org6666 or 166666633 or 16633
Europezec-eu2.nanopool.org6666 or 166666633 or 16633
US Eastzec-us-east1.nanopool.org6666 or 166666633 or 16633
US Westzec-us-west1.nanopool.org6666 or 166666633 or 16633
Asiazec-asia1.nanopool.org6666 or 166666633 or 16633

Save the file with the name ” start.bat ” inside the container folder, and then select the option Save as Type: “All files”. That way we’ll have our executable file ready to start mining.

Run the start.bat file to start the mining client, Congratulations, you’re already mining Zcash!

4. How to mine Zcash with NVIDIA graphics cards (EWBF)

Go to  https://zec.nanopool.org/ and click on the “Help” button. From here you can see the recommended configuration for each mining client, including EWBF.

Then download the mining client by clicking on ” Download EWBF (CUDA) “.

The EWBF mining client will be downloaded into a compressed file (Zec.miner.0.3.4b.zip). You must extract the content to a new folder on your PC, (for example: ” C: / EWBF “).

The next step will be to create an executable file start.bat , for that open the notebook and copy the following parameters:

miner.exe --server zec-eu1.nanopool.org --user YOUR_WALLET_ADDRESS.YOUR_WORKER_NAME/YOUR_EMAIL --pass z --port 6666

For example, if you are on the west coast of the United States, replace the default server zec-eu1.nanopool.org with this one: zec-us-west1.nanopool.org

LocationServer HostStratum PortSSL / TLS Port
Europezec-eu1.nanopool.org6666 or 166666633 or 16633
Europezec-eu2.nanopool.org6666 or 166666633 or 16633
US Eastzec-us-east1.nanopool.org6666 or 166666633 or 16633
US Westzec-us-west1.nanopool.org6666 or 166666633 or 16633
Asiazec-asia1.nanopool.org6666 or 166666633 or 16633

Save the file with the name ” start.bat ” inside the container folder, and then select the option Save as Type: “All files”. You must confirm that you want to replace the existing file. That way we’ll have our executable file ready to start mining.

Run the file Start.bat to start the mining client, Congratulations, you are already mining Zcash!

5. Check the mining statistics

Once we have started mining, we can check that everything works correctly by entering our Zcash wallet address to the Nanopool website.

Enter the Nanospool Zcash mining portal:  https://zec.nanopool.org/

Copy the address of your wallet or wallet Zcash and paste it in the search box located in the upper navigation bar (where “Address” is indicated) and then click on “Search”

If everything works properly, a page will be loaded with the latest statistics of your mining rig, mining time, hashrate, income, etc.

conclusion

As you can see, this is one of the simplest forms currently available to mine Zcash. If you still have problems, or prefer a simpler method, there are some options available in the market, such as mining clients  MinerGate (https://es.minergate.com/) and Nicehash (https: //miner.nicehash. com/). These clients are recommended especially if you do not have much experience, since both have an intuitive graphical interface, and have some advanced functions, such as mining the most profitable cryptocurrency of the moment automatically.
