The US Federal Aviation Authority has granted a special permit these days, coinciding with the Hurricane Harvey catastrophe in Houston, so that the use of airplanes and drones can aid in the relief efforts of the people . However, manufacturers are striving to launch new, compliant devices to become mass-use products.

This year, during the IFA fair taking place in Berlin, PowerVision is conducting demonstrations of different dron models that would not require FAA authorization to be deployed and fulfill their role, by complying with the requirements of the laws of the State. This is the case of PowerRay, a very special underwater dron that has autonomy to move underwater. With almost half a meter in length, it is equipped with a video camera of 4K quality that allows to monitor in real time what is happening under water. It transmits via Wifi network and has high power bulbs to penetrate the darkness. According to their manufacturers, it is prepared to withstand up to 30 meters of depth. It moves at speeds of up to 1.5 meters per second (3 knots). Its 6,400 mAh battery can keep it running for more than 4 hours of use if it is not forced to move at its maximum speed.

Although the device can broadcast images via wireless connectivity, radio waves can be altered by water. It is for this reason that the dron has a cable to carry signals between the device and a Wifi base station that remains on the surface. This cable has a length of more than 70 meters to ensure maximum mobility of the same.

The PowerRay dron can operate in both fresh and saltwater, transmitting video at 1080p and recording it at 4K UHD quality. You can also record still images at 12 megapixel quality and up to 5 frames per second on your 64 GB of internal storage. The PowerVision includes a kit with the dron, the base station, the power supplies, the wireless controller and two headphones Zeiss VR One Plus , presenting a price of approximately 2,200 euros.

Despite the fact that as its developers indicate, the PowerRay was originally designed as a fishing device, since it includes a Sonar device to locate fish banks at 40 meters depth, it has been seen that their skills can be exploited in service situations emergency and insurance companies that are in need of inspecting flooded infrastructures.
