This is an unbiased review whose intention is to credibly differentiate software buyers from platforms that provide functions agreed upon by a multitude of vendors and users.
IoT’s largest trade association with 25,000 members, IoT M2M Council (IMC), has announced a program to verify that IoT software platforms meet the open source standards it has established. Benchmarks come in the form of an RFP model, available online and developed with leading IoT software providers such as PTC, HPE or Wind River, as well as more than a hundred software users.
In this way, suppliers will pay a fee for their software to be evaluated and validated as “IoT Model Suppliers” by the IMC. Vendor revisions will be included in the RFPs, which will be widely distributed, and participants will receive a detailed validation report, which they will be able to use for their own purposes. This review, which they announce will be completely unbiased, intends to credibly differentiate software buyers from platforms that provide features agreed upon by a multitude of vendors and users.
In the words of Joel Young, president of IMC, “there has been an explosion in the number of software packages for IoT applications. Our members buy software and have made it clear that there is a need for such tools. Even those buyers who do not use formal RFPs in their procurement process tell us that they would find them useful. ”
Finally, IMC’s RFP and validation program will cover technical issues related to software platforms, including connectivity, device management, data analysis, application development, and security.
