Mining bitcoins with the Antminer miners
If this is the first time you set up an Antminer miner, then you may find yourself a little lost on how to use it to join a mining pool. This quick guide will help you to follow all the necessary steps to configure your Antminer from 0 and start mining in a matter of minutes.
For this brief tutorial you will need:
- Miner Bitminin Antminer S9 , Antminer T9, Antminer S7 or Antminer R4
- Power source Bitmain APW3-12-1600 (220V), APW3 ++ (220V), or any other Bitmain power source of 1600 W
- LAN Network Cable
- PC or Laptop
- Broadband internet connection (1MB or more)
Before starting to mine bitcoins, make sure you have a Bitmain power source of 1600 Watts. These miners have a high electricity consumption and are prone to damage if you do not have the right power source. Also keep in mind that these miners require a 220V outlet to function properly. The S9, for example, consumes 1390 Watts and uses 9 PCI-E (6-pin) power connectors plus an additional PCI-E connector for the controller board. The miners S7 and T9 have a similar consumption and have the same number of PCI-E connectors as the S9. For these equipment, the recommended power sources are:
- Antminer APW3 ++ – 12-1600-A3 (18 PCI-E connectors) http://amzn.to/2rdK2cm
- AntMiner APW3-12-1600 (10 PCI-E connectors) http://amzn.to/2DngDS0
- AntMiner APW3 ++ (10 PCI-E connectors) http://amzn.to/2DfkoJU

In the Antminer S9, S7 and T9, the power PCI-E connectors are located on top of the equipment, as shown in the following image:
After you have connected all the cables from the power supply to the miner, you must connect the network cable to the LAN port (on the S9, T9 and S7 the network port is located on the front of the computer). Finally, connect the power supply to the power outlet. The miner will start automatically.
Find your IP address Antminer
To find the IP address of the Antminer, you need to start your miner and connect it to the router using the LAN cable.
Once the miner connects to the Internet, it will generate its own IP address. To configure the miner, you must log in to that IP address through your Internet browser from a PC.
From the configuration page of the router we can determine the IP of the miner, or through an IP browser program, as we will see below.
For this we are going to download the Advanced IP Address Scanner program.
Install the IP explorer and once open press “Explore” to start scanning.
If you are using a LAN cable to access the Internet, you will see the name “Antminer” in the IP scanner. If you are using WiFi, you will probably not see any name, but you can see the name of the manufacturer or the Mac address to identify which one is the Antminer. The manufacturer of Antminer is listed as “Texas Instruments”, and the MAC address always begins with “84: EB: …”.
Once you have determined the IP address of Antminer, copy and paste the address into the URL of your browser.
Accessing the Antminer interface
When you access the Antminer interface for the first time , you will be asked for a password.
The default factory login of the Antminer miners is as follows:
Nombre de usuario: root
Once inside, you will have several options available: “System”, “Miner Configuration”, “Miner Status” and “Network”. In the “System” tab we can see the basic Antminer information: model, kernel version, amount of memory, etc. In “Network” we can choose if we want to use the Antminer with a dynamic (DHCP) or static IP address, this last option is highly recommended if you suffer from abrupt connection losses with your Internet service.
In “Miner Status” you can check the current Antminer status: activity, hash speed, core temperature and frequency, among other statistics.
To configure the Antminer, go to the “Miner Configuration” tab and then click on the “General Settings” option . From here we are going to connect the Antminer to a mining pool.
The AntMiner miner can be configured with three mining pools, with a decreasing priority from the first group (pool 1) to the third group (pool 3). In each section we will see 3 boxes to fill:
Pool URL: enter the URL of your mining pool
Worker: the ID of your equipment in the selected pool
Password: a password for your device (not necessary)
To complete this data, we must open an account in a mining pool. In this guide we will see how to configure the miner with 2 of the most popular mining pools, these are: Antpool (managed by Bitmain) and Slushpool.
Configuration of the Antminer miner with Antpool
Official site: https://www.antpool.com/
To register in Antpool you must first create a new user account through Bitmain (the Antpool website will redirect you automatically). You can do it from here.
Enter your email address and a valid password. An email will be sent to the email address you indicated with an activation link. Click on the link to confirm your email address.
Next, you must indicate a mobile phone number. Choose your country of residence, enter your mobile number, and click on “send SMS”. You must receive a code, enter it in the corresponding box (Sms code) and click on “Creatte account”.
Now enter the home page (or “Dashboard” ) of your Antpool account. From here we will have several options available, such as verifying the number of connected workers, our balance of payments, etc.
To be able to mine in Antpool we must create a sub-account. To do so, go to “Settings”and then “Add Sub Account” . Enter a name of your choice (“technobits”, “johndoe”, etc) and click on “Create” . This pseudonym will serve to identify our miner in the Antpool pool.
Once created, click on the “Edit” button. In the “Wallet Address” option insert your Bitcoin address. If you have not yet obtained a wallet address, you can create one in Coinbase through the following link:
In the “Payments” option, select PPS if you are going to undermine irregularly or PPLNS if you plan to mine consistently 24 hours a day.
Now you must configure the miner with the Antpool configuration. Save the changes and go back to the Dashboard, and copy the address of the Stratum servers from Antpool.
Return to the Antminer configuration interface (“Miner Configuration / General Settings”). You will see that there are 3 groups of boxes where we must enter the data of the mining pools, these are “Pool 1”, “Pool 2” and “Pool 3”. The miner will use the first address by default and will use the other 2 only as backup.
Copy the first Stratum server address from Antpool and paste it in the “URL” box.
In the “Worker” box, you must first insert the name of the sub-account that you previously configured followed by a period, and then a name of your choice for the Antminer (example: “digitalbodha.worker1”, “johndoe.worker1”, etc.)
You do not need to give any password. Fill in the other boxes with the address of servers 2 and 3 of Antpool and the name of your sub-account, and finally click on Save.
You’re almost finished Now you can check from the “Miner Status” tab that the team is mining correctly. After 10 minutes or so, you will see the Antwerp hashrate from the “Worker” tab on the Antpool website.
Configure the Antminer miner with Slushpool
Official site: https://slushpool.com/home/
To start mining, you basically need two things, create an account in the Slushpool mining pool and set up your miner.
Register a new account in Slushpool . You can do it from here .
Enter your user ID , Email and Password. Click on “Register now” and wait for the confirmation email. Activate your account through the link included in the email, and then start the session with your username and password.
When entering the Slushpool Dashboard you will have several options available: Workers, Monitoring, Recompenses, Payments, Activity Log and Adjustments , to which we will enter to configure the payment address. To get your reward you need to first establish a bitcoin wallet address. If you have not yet obtained a wallet address, register in Coinbase to obtain a free wallet, through the following link:
Once you have the address of your wallet created, go to the Settings tab from the start page of your Slushpool account and select the “Bitcoin” option, and then select the “Payments” option.
Place the address of your Wallet in the “New Wallet” field and click on the “Save” button
Your mining rewards will be automatically sent to this address once your confirmed reward crosses the payment threshold.
Now we are going to configure your Antminer device with the data of the Slushpool server. The registration credentials required for your miner will be similar to these:
Your miner has to be pointed to one of the Slushpool Stratum servers. Slushpool currently operates in the following regions: the east coast of the United States (US-east), Europe (EU), mainland China (CN) and Asia-Pacific / Singapore (SG). You can see an updated list of Slushpool servers here.
In the Antminer configuration interface (“Miner Configuration / General Settings”) locate the “URL” box and enter the address of the Stratum server closest to your location.
Servers can be chosen from the following list based on your geographic location:
USA (costa este): stratum+tcp://us-east.stratum.slushpool.com:3333
China (2): stratum+tcp://cn.stratum.slushpool.com:443
Now in the “Worker” box enter your Slushpool user ID followed by the worker’s name . They must be separated by a period (example: “digitalbodha.worker1”, “johndoe.worker1”, etc).
Once you have entered the server URL and the name of your computer, click save and wait a few minutes. Your miner will be synchronized with the mining pool.
To monitor the statistics, go back to the Slushpool Dashboard and click on the “Workers” tab. From there you can see in real time the hashrate of your team.
