The race to introduce chips dedicated to AI ( artificial intelligence ) in the mobile sector has been a reality for some time. Apple and Huawei have been the first to “give the blow” and they have done it in a big way.
In the case of the giant of Cupertino SoC A11 Bionic has what Apple calls “Neural Engine”, a neural engine that is capable of performing 600,000 million operations per second to enhance functions such as Face ID, Animoji and other related to learning deep.
Meanwhile Huawei surprised with the NPU ( Neural Processing Unit ) present in the SoC Kirin 970 , a very powerful silicon that allows access to advanced deep learning functions and greatly improves the photographic capabilities of Huawei Mate 10.
It is clear that in this scenario Samsung can not be left behind and that the South Korean company has to present its own AI chips if it wants to keep the type against its direct rivals, something that according to sources in his native country could happen this year.
In a new information published in the Korea Herald we have seen that Samsung has already reached the level of Apple and Huawei in solutions dedicated to IA for mobile devices, and that they will launch higher versions in the middle of this same year.
It is expected that the first solutions for IA of the South Korean company debuted as a key component of the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 + (versions with the SoC Exynos 9810), and that later extend to the Galaxy Note 9.
But this is not all, according to the source of the news Samsung also wants to launch its own artificial intelligence solutions in versions aimed at the professional market (servers).
It is soon to confirm if they will really be at the level of Apple and Huawei solutions, but Samsung has certainly had time to spare to shape a superior alternative.
