The first laboratory tests of the Huawei Transport Software Defined Network (T-SDN) controller have been successfully completed, which will mean important advances in the management of Telefónica’s photonic networks.
As part of the joint work carried out for years by Telefónica and Huawei , the laboratory tests of the Transport Software Defined Network ( T-SDN ) solution are found .
T-SDN is a centralized controller (software) and designed to perform various tasks, such as planning, management, supervision and diagnosis of communications networks , in this case the photonic mesh that Telefónica de España began to deploy in 2009. In Currently, this network connects more than 200 locations in the national territory and is one of the pillars of the connectivity offer of the operator.
The solution provides a multitude of functionalities. Among others, Telefónica will use it as the brain of the network , to obtain information in real time and use the simulation of incidents in which they improve the reliability of the service. With the passage of time and thanks to the automatic learning it provides, it will be possible to prevent potential network incidents , one of the final objectives of any operator. This is because service cuts can be reduced considerably, both at the residential and business levels.
Richard Jin, president of Transmission of Huawei , has declared for the occasion that “this solution has been implemented in more than 10 networks for clients of several countries, and has supported diverse business scenarios such as finance, governments, leased lines of companies, the media industry and the interconnection of data centers. ”
On the other hand, María Antonia Crespo, Director of IP Connectivity and Transport of Telefónica Spain explained that “we were interested to see how T-SDN technology can help Telefónica in many different areas. On the one hand, we want to improve the performance of the WDM control plane (Wavelenght Division Multiplexing), which can help reduce restoration times. We also have the expectation that it will allow Telefónica to have a more efficient management of resources and a better diagnosis of the network. Finally, it will be very useful for us if we can advance in the automation of the network, since it is one of the key objectives in Telefónica’s strategy for the coming years “.
